Alley Cat Oyster Bar—Hottest Restaurants in America 2016

Alley Cat Oyster Bar is part of the newly developed East Bank of the Flats. Again, Chef Zachary Bruell teamed up with the Cantanese brothers of Cantanese Classic Seafood to open his 10th restaurant in the City of Cleveland.

Alley Cat Oyster Bar is considered to be the flagship restaurant for the Flats East Bank development, located at 1056 Old River Road nestled alongside the river with a wall of garage door panels that open up and can create an open-air dining room with great views of the river and marine traffic. The new restaurant features a variety of fresh seafood as well as oysters, clam chowder and many signature seafood entrees and can seat around 350 guests.

The restaurant’s location abuts the new boardwalk and occupies 8,500 square feet of space in a two-story building with large outdoor patios on both floors that overlook the river and Lake Erie—the perfect place to spend a warm summer evening watching yachters and boaters hop from their watercraft onto the boardwalk or observe the Cleveland Metroparks Water Taxi make its way as it repeatedly crosses from the West Bank to the East Bank.

The City of Cleveland provided a Neighborhood Retail Assistance Program Loan of $40,000 loan to assist with the $600,000 project to acquire restaurant equipment, furniture & fixtures for the new restaurant. Alley Cat is required to create 25 full-time equivalent jobs with an estimated payroll of $300,000.

The online restaurant reservation and review website, Open Table, named Alley Cat to its list of the "100 Hottest Restaurants in America for 2016," as voted by Open Table diners. The list highlights new restaurants, hot spots, celebrity chefs and avant-garde restaurateurs. Alley Cat was the only Cleveland area restaurant to make the list and just one of two Ohio restaurants.

Alley Cat is located on the East Bank of the Flats and is one of 10 in Zach Bruell’s portfolio that includes; Parallax, Chinato, Table 45, L’Albatros, Cowell & Hubbard, Kafeteria and Dynomite Burgers.

Chef Zach Bruell was also nominated early in 2016 for the James Beard Foundation Award.
