Sales Tax Holiday — Friday August 5th - Sunday August 7th
Clevelanders have had many reasons to celebrate this year and now we are getting a sales tax "holiday" for back-to-school shopping!
For the second time in Ohio there will be a three-day sales tax holiday in August 2016. A one-time event commencing on Friday, August 5th, 2016 12:01 a.m. and ending on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at 11:59 p.m.
During this holiday, the following items are exempt from sales and use tax:
Clothing exempt from sales tax includes: bathingsuits, blouses, shirts, diapers, shoes and rainwear. Items not exempt during the sales tax holiday include handbags, jewelry and umbrellas, items purchased for use in a trade or business, sports or recreational equipment.
For college students looking to save a few bucks, take note that textbooks are also exempt from sales tax.
When making purchases online, shipping charges may also qualify for the exemption, or they may not. If the entire order is exempt, shipping charges are exempt. If a portion of the order is subject to tax, then the retailer must charge tax on the portion of the shipping and handling charges allocated ot the taxable itmes in the shipment.
